Box Score

Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Women's soccer team battled long and hard today against UW-Whitewater at home. Goalkeeper Abigial Shrode made a total of 17 saves on the day, but it was not enough to hold off the Warhawks as they took the win 4-0.

How it Happened

1st Half

The Warhawks took early opportunities to score, with their first shot off at 1:15 and again at 3:16. Both shots were off target, allowing for goalkeeper Abigail Shrode (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) to set up her teammates at midfield.

Possession was in favor of the Warhawks for most of the first half, Shrode faced many on target shots, but the Warhawks made it easy, shooting right at Shrode's chest.

At 16:40, the Warhawks scored their first goal of the game, shooting high and right, just out of reach of the Saints goalkeeper.

The Saints struggled to retaliate, but the Saints defenders stepped up to block two consecutive shots.

At 20:07, UWW scored their second goal. The Warhawks led 2-0.

After a few substitutions, the Saints picked up the pace and held off the Warhawks from scoring again. The Blue and Gold were unable to get a shot off in the first half but defended their net with ease.

The first half ended 2-0 in favor of UWW.

2nd Half

The Saints had their first shot of the game at 51:03, as Gabrielle Eckman (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) shot low and right but the UWW made a diving save.

At the 52-minute mark, the Saints made another push for a goal, with a shot by Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS). The shot was denied once again by the Warhawk goalkeeper.

Control had switched in favor of the Saints, as they took two more shot attempts, maintaining possession in the offensive end.

Despite the Saints' efforts, the Warhawks were able to score their third goal of the game at 57:50.

The gap on the scoreboard made it tough for the Saints to keep momentum, but the Saints were not ready to give up yet, they took another on-target shot by Ellie Marciniak (Duluth) at 60:07, and the UWW goalkeeper stood on her head to prevent this shot from entering the back of the net.

The Warhawks added to their goal total in the 79th minute. The clock wound down and the Saints fell 4-0 to the Warhawks.
