Box Score Duluth, MN. - The College of St. Scholastica Men's soccer team returned to Kenny Harkins for their third straight home game. The Saints kicked off against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets for one of the most heated matches of the season. The Saints fell 5-1 in the Bridge Battle against the Yellowjackets.
How it Happened
1st Half
Off the kickoff, the Saints looked to create open space to move the ball. An early turnover resulted in the Yellowjackets taking the first shot attempt but it was missed high.
At 4:50 the Saints sent their first on-target shot toward the UWS net, the ball was just inches away from passing over the goalkeeper's fingertips. The Yellowjackets did not allow the Saints to keep possession, they turned around and took six shots in fourteen minutes.
Despite UWS taking advantage of any ball control they had, the Saints were experts at defending their goalkeeper, Marco Hernandez (Barstow, CA).
At the midway point of the half, the Yellowjackets controlled the field, as the Saints struggled to cross midfield.
As the clock wound down and a load of substitutions were made, Ayub Mohamed (Lewiston ME/Park High School) made a last attempt to put the Saints on the board at 41:54 and to take the lead. The shot was denied by the Yellowjacket goalkeeper. The first half ended scoreless 0-0.
2nd Half
The second half started with increased intensity, both teams were grinding during their first 45 minutes. The Battle of the Bridge brought an undeniable hostility to the field, causing multiple yellow cards in the first 15 minutes.
At 52:28, the Yellowjackets found the back of the net, they shot one high and mighty that could not be stopped. Yellowjackets led 1-0.
Just 30 seconds later, Akeem Robotham (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College (Johnson County CC)) tied it up, his unassisted goal had the crowd on their feet. The score was now tied 1-1.
On multiple occasions, the Saints and Yellowjackets fought for control, causing yellow cards for both teams. A scramble outside the net at 54:09 resulted in the UWS's second goal of the game (2-1).
The Saints struggled to regroup, allowing another goal at 55:44. Yellowjackets led 3-1. The Saints then made a series of substitutions to try to change up the scenery.
Ultimately, the Yellowjackets were able to score two more goals in the last five minutes of the game. The Yellowjackets took the win 5-1.

The Saints will return to Kenny Harkins Field for a Friday afternoon game on September 13 at 2 p.m. The kickoff will be against the Knights of Wartburg College.
