Two Saints Throwers Named MIAC Field Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. –  The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for outdoor track & field and golf Tuesday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Macalester, Saint John's, and St. Scholastica claimed the Conference's weekly honors. The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball, and tennis) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (golf and indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. 

Two throwers from St. Scholastica opened up their outdoor season this past Saturday and earned recognition for their efforts at the Hamline Invitational.

Lily Beneke (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East HS) placed third overall in the hammer throw at the Hamline Invitational on 4/6. Beneke's first throw of the day was her best, traveling 50.72 meters (166' 5"). Beneke finished behind only two NCAA Division I throwers at the meet. Her mark ranks 19th in D-III this season. Beneke collects her third outdoor weekly honor of her career, sixth overall.

Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) won both the shot put and discus events at the Hamline Invitational on 4/6. Beseth's winning toss in the discus throw flew 48.87 meters (160' 4") and ranks 16th in NCAA Division III this season. Beseth's shot put distance of 15.52 meters (50' 11") ranks 33rd in the nation. Beseth collects his fifth overall weekly accolade, first of the outdoor season.
