OWATONNA, Minn. - The College of St. Scholastica men's tennis team headed south to the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center for a pair of matches against the University of Northwestern and Ripon College. The Saints would see a split this Saturday with a close 5-4 loss to the Eagles and a 7-2 win against the Red Hawks.

The Saints would be able to grab two of the three doubles matches.
At No. 1 Doubles, teammates
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) and
Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Au./) would go back and forth with their opponents but would fall in tiebreaker fashion (7-4) with the Eagles taking the 8-7 victory.
The second pair of
Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Harper Dircks (Hopkins, Minn./) won 8-2 and
Alex Daigneault (Agua Dulce, Calif./Hart HS) and
Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./) picked up the 8-5 advantage.
The Eagles would be able to grab four of the six singles matches, which would end up being the deciding factor in the match.
D. Patten came away with a win at the No. 3 spot, winning 6-1, 6-0. Patten was recently named MIAC Player of the Week and continues to shine with his sixth win in a row.
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) would do battle with his opponent at No. 4 singles, winning the first set 6-3 and losing the second 7-5, before falling in the final set.
In the last spot, Daigneault was able to claim a 6-4, 6-2 win.
CSS 7, RC 2
Abeleda and Gerrard-Stace redeemed themselves this afternoon with an 8-2 win.
Patten and Direcks would take care of the match with an 8-1 victory. In the final pairing, Onnka and Daigneault won their match 8-4.
The Saints would fall in No. 1 and No. 5 singles play but were able to get four points to secure the win.
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) played in the second spot, winning his match 6-2, 6-2.
Dircks won in the third set in No. 4 singles and
Drew Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) picked up the 6-0, 6-1 win over his opponent in the final spot.

The men's team is now 4-4 and will again play tomorrow at home, action will start a 1 p.m. at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
