Men's Tennis Split Sunday Contests in Florida

Orlando, Fla. - The College of St. Scholastica men's tennis team played in two matches as part of their spring break trip on Sunday. Their first contest was against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Edgewood College. The Saints would fall 7-2 to the Crusaders before splitting the weekend with an 8-1 win over the Eagles.

CSS 2, UMHB 7
The Saints would only be able to claim a point in No. 2 doubles, teammates Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Julius Tabrizi (Frankfurt, Germany/Bischof-Neumann) secured the 8-7 win.

Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) got the win in the three sets atop of the lineup, he lost the first set 6-0, before coming back to win 6-3, 10-8.

The rest of the lineup saw defeat, although in the No. 3 spot, Harper Dircks (Hopkins, Minn./) and his opponent would battle to three sets, but the Crusaders would grab it.

The Saints would be able to show up in this match and dominate the Eagles, not allowing them a single point in doubles action.

Patten and Tabrizi again saw a win, this time in No. 1 doubles with a score of 8-0

Abeleda and Dircks would win 8-0, and Alex Daigneault (Agua Dulce, Calif./Hart HS) and Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./) grabbed the win in the last spot.

Again, St. Scholastica took all but the No. 2 match. Patten won 6-1, 6-0.

Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS), in the third spot, saw a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Onkka won 6-2, 6-3 in his match.

In the fifth spot, Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./) got the 6-2, 6-1 win over his opponent and Nicolas Greis Coria (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Trinnean's School) earned the 6-1, 6-3 win in the final spot.

The Saints are now 5-6 overall and will face Belhaven University tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
