WINONA, Minn. - Saints hockey loses game one of their two-game series and 3rd in a row as Saint Mary's scores 4 unanswered goals to win 4-2.
How it Happened
The Saints took an early lead as Hunter Hanson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), assisted by Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored to give the team a 1-0 lead.
There wouldn't be another goal from either side until the halfway point of the 2nd period where Brodie Girod (Clavet, Saskatchewan/Clavet HS) scored increasing the lead to 2. Hanson assisted the goal and recorded his 2nd point of the night.
Saint Mary's found their first goal toward the end of the second period.
In the 3rd period, the Saints held off Saint Mary's for the majority of the period but the Cardinals tied it up with about 5 minutes remaining.
The Cardinals' game-winning goal came with just under 2 minutes remaining and added on another empty netter shortly after. Saints battled towards the end but wasn't enough as Saint Mary's goaltending was the deciding factor.
Goaltending
Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) got the start for the Saints and allowed 3 goals on 24 shots.
A.J. Ruskowski earned the win only allowing 2 goals on 48 shots.
