MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica men's hockey fell 3-2 to Augsburg in regulation to wrap up the end of the 23-2024 regular season.
How It Happened
The Saints battled hard with Augsburg tonight, winning the shots on goal battle 37-35 but the Auggies found a way to score late in a tied game to find the edge over the Saints.
In the first period, both teams seemed evenly matched as there wasn't a goal until the 13th minute of play which was scored by the Auggies. The Saints tied it up a few minutes later off the stick of Declan Young (Fergus Falls, Minn./Kennedy Secondary School), assisted by Hunter Hanson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS).
Augsburg scored one more in the second period taking a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya) tied the game (assisted by Kieran Chung (Nottingham, England) and Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya)) around the halfway point of the third on the power play to give the Saints some steam late. Then with less than five minutes remaining, the Auggies scored a dagger to take the lead making it 3-2.
The Saints looked like a different team than last night and battled hard against the conference leaders in Augsburg but wasn't enough playing in Augsburgs home environment.
