Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Shewchuk, Adrian, and W. Wurst Shine as Men's Hockey Rolls to Victory

St. Paul, Minn. - The St. Scholastica Men's Hockey team wrapped up their home-and-home series tonight with a huge win against Hamline University. The Saints  6-1 with Shewchuk and Adrian each scoring twice.

How it Happened
1st Period

The Saints opened up the game with the mindset of dominance, tallying five shots on goal in the first three minutes.
All that momentum quickly turned into the Saints' first goal of the game, at 4:44 Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS) scored his first of the season with the help of Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) and Tristan Shewchuk (Saskatoon, SK, Canada/St. Joseph HS).
The Pipers attempted the return the goal, but a vital block from Isaac Suppin (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary) kept the Saints lead.
There was no stopping the Saints as they scored just minutes later at 7:33 with an unassisted goal from Shewchuk. The Saints led 2-0.
A series of penalties were given out following the second goal, but CSS would not allow a goal while shorthanded.
Undeniable pressure was being put on the Pipers, as the Saints outshot their opponents 14-6. Seitz then added a third goal to the sheet at 14:14 with assists from Wyatt Wurst (Edina, MN) and Kieran Chung (Nottingham, Great Britain).
The Saints took period one with ease, by a score of 3-0.

2nd Period
The Pipers came out with more intensity, with four shot attempts in three minutes. But Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) made two tough saves to prevent HU from scoring.
CSS took an unlucky penalty, thereby putting the Pipers on the powerplay, the expert positioning of the Saints had the Pipers missing the net nearly every time.
Near the midway point of the period, the Saints lit the lamp twice in under two minutes. The fourth goal of the game came at 8:25 from Adrian once again, with assists from Seitz and Shewchuk.
Then again, at 9:58 Brodie Girod (Clavet, SK, Canada/Clavet HS) scored the fifth goal of the game, with apples from Chung and W. Wurst.
The Pipers continued to pressure the Saints but were unable to capitalize. The Saints led 5-0.

3rd Period
Hamline had little room to work with, but they were persistent in their aim for the net. Rissanen stood on his head throughout the entire contest.
A penalty was drawn on the Saints, which gave the Pipers another opportunity to get on the board. Rissanen made three key saves to keep the Pipers at bay.
As Adrian left the penalty box, he jumped in on the rush alongside Shewchuk and W. Wurst, and a quick back-and-forth pass resulted in a highlight reel goal from Shewchuk that made the score 6-0 at 7:02.
The Pipers were able to score just moments after the Saints. The puck took a lucky bounce off the boards, which set up the Pipers for a goal.
In the final minutes of the game, the Saints were still finding opportunities to score. But the 60-minute mark approached and the Blue and Gold took down the Pipers 6-1.

Up Next
