Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Crown to Earn Fifth Win of Season

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team picked up their third road victory of the season this afternoon, cruising past the Polars from Crown University. The Saints defense allowed just 10 points in the first half, leading 46-10 at the halftime break, and continued their dominance into the second half, taking today's game by a score of 71-28. 

How it Happened

First Quarter


Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored the first two field goals for the Saints to start the quarter, converting a pair of layups before Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) nailed her first three-pointer of the game to give CSS a quick 7-4 lead. 

Carlson scored twice more on the Saints' next two possessions, while Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) got her afternoon started with a pair of field goals to make the score 15-6. 

Lind scored two of CSS' last three field goals to end the quarter, the other coming on a jumper from Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS), as the Saints took a 21-6 lead at the end of the quarter. 

Second Quarter

Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) scored her first points in the game on a three-pointer to get the Saints offense started in the second quarter. 

Voigt recorded her second field goal of the game coming on a fastbreak layup on a steal she recorded on the other end, with the Saints leading 26-6. 

Haus nailed her second three-pointer of the quarter at the 5:57 mark in the quarter, extending the Saints' lead to 31-9. 

The Saints scored four more times all coming off layups, as Bierschbach, Ava Riegel (Rogers, MN/Totino Grace High School), Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS), and Daysia Simmons (Albertville, MN/St. Michael HS) all scoring, with the Saints leading 41-9. 

Brooklyn Sarauer (Bloomer, WI/Bloomer HS) scored her first points of the game on a three-pointer, as the Saints took a 46-10 lead into the halftime break. 

Third Quarter

Voigt scored the Saints' first point of the second half with a three-pointer, as Imdieke also nailed a three-pointer to make the score 54-14. 

Bierschbach and Riegel scored the next pair of field goals for CSS on layups, bringing the score to 58-19 nearing the end of the quarter. 

Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Lind ended the quarter for CSS with converted layups, as the Saints' lead sat at 65-21. 

Fourth Quarter

The Saints generated most of their points from the free throw line in the final quarter, as the only field goal came from Kate Toewe (Hibbing, MN/Hibbing HS) on a layup with an assist credited to Madison Kenyon (Woodstock, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS), as the Saints came away with a 71-28 victory over the Polars this afternoon.

The Saints (5-5, 1-2 MIAC) will be back in action on Saturday, January 4, where they will host Macalester at the Reif Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
