De Pere, WI. - The St. Scholastica Women's Basketball team wrapped up the Nicolet Law Tip-off Tournament today with a loss against the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Blue Devils dominated the court with a final score of 71-53.
How it Happened
1st Quarter
The Blue Devils took an early lead in the opening minutes of the quarter with a lead of 21-4.
The Saints juggled their lineup completely in hopes of crawling back.
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) was fouled on the fastbreak, giving her two free throws. Johnson secured both free throws.
Johnson kept the streak alive, stealing the ball back off of a turnover and running down to shoot a layup. Blue Devils led 21-8.
CSS held the Blue Devils off from scoring any more points. And with just five seconds remaining in the quarter,
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) dropped a three-pointer. The first quarter ended with a score of 21-11 in favor of Stout.
2nd Quarter
Ava Haus (St. Michael/St. Michael-Albertville High School) opened the floodgates for the Saints in the second quarter, hitting a three with the help of Johnson on the assist.
The battle was fairly even throughout, with each team exchanging buckets. The Saints came within nine points as
Ava Riegel (Rogers, MN/Totino Grace High School) juked her way through the paint to score a layup.
With two minutes left in the quarter, Johnson capitalized on a free throw and closed the cap to just six points.
But the Blue Devils took control of the final minutes and extended their lead to 39-25 at the end of the quarter.
3rd Quarter
The Saints struggled to rally back as the Blue Devils controlled the Saints end.
Ave Haus stepped up to the plate with a huge three-pointer at the eight-minute mark. Blue Devils still led 43-31.
Johnson took to the free throw line after getting tripped up by a Stout player, she made both shots.
The Saints were back within 10 as
Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) tossed a layup in the paint to bring the score to 49-39.
Nearing the end of the quarter, the Saints picked up the pace to try to set themselves up for success going into the fourth. The quarter ended 52-47 in favor of the Blue Devils.
4th Quarter
The Blue Devils kicked it into gear throughout the quarter, they took advantage of any opening in the Saints end.
Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) found an opportunity to jump in front of a Blue Devil pass, securing the turnover and turning around to make a layup at 5:22.
It was then that Stout stepped up and moved the ball around with ease. The Saints took a timeout with 1 minute left to try to regain the momentum. But neither team was able to score in the final minute.
The final score was 71-53 for the Blue Devils.

The Saints will continue their road game streak next weekend with games against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. and then head to Fon Du Las, WI, on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match against Marian University.
