Dominant Performance: Men's Basketball Team Secures a Big Win

Box Score Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Men's Basketball team took on the Lumberjacks of Northland College at home tonight and came out victorious. This was the Saints' first win of the season and the first win for Head Coach Christian Butler. The Saints took the win with ease 85-49. 

How it Happened
First Half
  • The Saints dominated the first half with a score of 42-18.
  • Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) led the team in points through 10 minutes, with nine points and went 3-4 on three-pointers. 
  • From under the net, Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) had four rebounds and held the Lumberjacks off from multiple attempts. 
  • Tanner Thompson recorded three steals and rerouted the ball back to the Saints.
  • Jacquez Overstreet (Appleton, Wis./Oshkosh West (Marian University)) secured three rebounds, and all three resulted in assists. 
  • Eight different Saints scored in the half and as a team, were 50% from the three-point line. 
Second Half
  • CSS took the win with a final score of 85-49
  • Keykal was the point leader of the night, tallying 15 points and 63.6% from the field. 
  • Bryce Shoto (Owego, Il./Oswego East Highschool) and Nelson also hit double digits, with 11 from Nelson and 10 from Shoto.
  • As a team, the Saints secured 32 points off of turnovers. 
Up Next
The Men's Basketball team will return to the Reif Gym in two weeks for a Saturday game against Saint Mary's University (MN) on December 7 at 1 p.m. The Saints look to bounce back after a tight loss to the Cardinals last season.
