Minneapolis, MN. - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell yesterday in a matchup against conference rivals, the Augsburg Auggies. The Auggies got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half and backed it up with an effective second half to get by CSS by a score of 6-0.
How it Happened
1st Half
Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, BC, CA) made the first attempt to put CSS on the board in the 11th minute of the first half, but his shot just missed the net as the game remained scoreless.
After Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) recorded his first save of the match in the 15th minute, the Auggies came back and responded with a goal just a minute later, taking a 1-0 lead.
Despite being handed a red card in the 16th minute, the Saints got a pair of shots on goal, but they were denied in their attempt to even the score.
In the middle minutes of the second half, the Auggies notched their second goal of the first half in the 34th minute and scored their third goal of the game two minutes later in the 35th minute to take a 3-0 lead into the half.
2nd Half
Hallberg was able to deny the Auggies on their first two shots of the second half, as the Saints looked to get themselves back into the match.
Hallberg continued his second-half success with four saves from the 54th to 62nd minute, with the score still sitting at 3-0.
David Lopez (Jalisco, Mexico/Universidad de Guadalajara) and Parker Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) tried to put CSS on the board, but a strong Auggies defense denied both opportunities.
Augsburg scored the first goal of the second half in the 75th minute, expanding their lead to 4-0.
The Auggies would score twice more in the late minutes, scoring in the 83rd and 90th minutes, respectively, as the Saints were held scoreless in today's match, falling by a score of 6-0.
