It was a slow start for both teams despite the Cardinals making three off-target shot attempts between 6:27 and 8:56.Â
At 19:42, Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN) had the Saints' first solid shot. Lewis brought the ball into the 18-yard box and attempted to go short side, but the Cardinals goalkeeper denied the shot.Â
Two minutes later, the Cardinals found the back of the net.Â
The Saints struggled to even the score, but the Saints defense and goalkeeper Meagher held the Cardinals off from scoring another. In the remaining 25 minutes, the Cardinals had eight shot attempts.Â
The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals.
2nd Half
Saint Mary's continued their momentum into the second half, with a huge shot right into Meagher's hands just two minutes in.Â
The game consisted of many throw-ins, causing constant stoppages. The teams made many substitutions in an effort to change the pace.Â
At 72:19, the Cardinals scored their second of the game that sailed right under the crossbar. Saint Mary's led 2-0.Â
The streak of throw-ins continued, and the Saints were unable to tally any shots in the second half.Â
With six minutes left, a Cardinals player went on a run all on her own and found her way around Meagher. Scoring the third goal of the game of the Cardinals.Â
At 88:16, Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) made the first on-target shot of the half for the Saints, but the Cardinal goalkeeper scooped it up.Â
