Box Score St. Joseph, MN. - The St. Scholastica Women's Soccer team competed in a weekday road game this afternoon against the College of Saint Benedict. Despite two big goals from the Saints in the first half, the Bennies came out victorious with a 5-2 win.
Gracie Meagher (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) made a whopping total of 17 saves in the match and Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN) had four on-target shots for the Saints.
How it Happened
1st Half
Right off the hop, the Saints were firing on all cylinders. Lewis took a shot that nearly went right under the crossbar, but the Bennies' goalkeeper made a diving save just 26 seconds in.
It wouldn't take long for the Bennies to start pounding on the door, taking five shots in four minutes. They were no match for Meagher as she rejected all five.
The Bennies were first to score, following the immense pressure they were putting on the defense. Bennies led 1-0 at 12:45.
But the Saints were pushing full force on the Bennies, returning the favor at 14:31. Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) found the back of the net with help from Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN). The game was all tied up.
The first half was riddled with shot attempts, and the Bennies were able to tally a second goal at 26:29.
CSS came knocking on the door once again at 33:12. An unassisted goal by Jordan Randa had the Saints' bench on their feet as she was able to secure the goal off of a perfectly placed throw-in from her teammate.
The two evenly matched teams battled hard, but the Bennies snuck another goal in just three minutes before halftime. CSB led 3-2 at half.
2nd Half
The Bennies used the momentum from their late first-half goal to score another at 48:06.
It was a sea of red on the stat sheet, the Saints made strides to catch up but were rejected on several occasions.
Sautter continued to make attempts from inside the 18-yard box, but after a goal kick to midfield from the Bennies, the offense was left wide open and went down to score their fifth of the game at 68:38.
Following the CSB fifth goal, the Saints only had one additional shot in the 86th minute. The game ended with a 5-2 win for the Bennies.

The Saints have another road contest coming up on Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m. against Augsburg University before heading back to Kenny Harkins field in two weeks for their last regular season game of the year.
