Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Women's Soccer team concluded their match against Macalester College today, the Saints fell 3-1 on Senior Day. The lone goal for the Saints came from Jordan Randa in the first half.
How it Happened
1st Half
The two teams began the game with fair even matchups. Both teams had to adjust to the slippery terrain on the field.Â
The first shot of the game came at 4:10 from the Scots, but was shot high and wide, the Saints showed no concerns.Â
But, at 5:09, a miscommunication at center field resulted in a Macalester goal. Scots led 1-0.Â
Macalester continued to pressure the Saints, but the defense held their own and blocked a big shot from a Scots player.Â
At 15:01, Brooke Hedin (Rochester, Minn./Century HS) took a powerful shot but was stopped by the Macalester goalkeeper.Â
Just when the game was back in the Saints' offensive favor, the Scots found the back of the net again, at 20:30, the Scots led 2-0.Â
Two minutes later, the Saints scored their first of the game, Jordan Randa beat the Scots goalkeeper from a tough angle on the right side. Saints brought the score to 2-1.Â
Goalkeeper Gracie Meagher (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) made two massive saves as the Scots put major pressure on the Saints.
Play remained fairly even in the remaining 15 minutes of play. The first half ended with a 2-1 lead for the Scots.Â
2nd Half
The second half started with more intensity from the Saints, at 46:09, Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) pumped one just over the crossbar.Â
Macalester turned around and made three shot attempts in just two minutes, Meagher was able to make a massive save, as well as the team stepped up to make a block.Â
Lily Rippie made huge efforts to score one for the Saints but the Macalester goalkeeper made a diving save.Â
The majority of the half was played in the midfield region, both teams did an excellent job of holding their opponents off from entering the 18-yard boxes.Â
CSS and Macalester struggled to keep possession, with a long series of throw-ins occurring.Â
It was not until 75:51 that the goal horn went off again. The Scots were able to score a third goal, extending their lead to 3-1.Â
Macalester held the Saints off from finding the back of the net for the rest of the game. Despite a solid attempt by Peyton Mathiasen (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) at 84:51. The Scots won the game 3-1.

The Blue and Gold will be back on Kenny Harkins Field next Saturday, October 16 at 1 p.m. against Saint Mary's University. This will be St. Scholastica's second last home game of the season.
