How it Happened
1st HalfÂ
Hamline came out flying in the opening moments of play, they took four shots in the first 10 minutes. Gracie Meagher (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) made two valiant saves off of two of those shots.Â
Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) was able to sneak in a shot during the Hamline chaos, but it was denied by the goalkeeper at 4:39.Â
Once both teams got rid of their kickoff jitters, play became more consistent. Each team controlled the ball back and forth in the offensive ends. There were minimal throw-ins during the half.Â
Hamline continued to make substitutions, in the hope of being the first team on the scoreboard, but Meagher stood on her head to deny the Pipers any goals.Â
The Pipers tallied six shots on goal in the first half, and the Saints recorded one. The first half ended scoreless for both teams.
2nd Half
The Saints got the first opportunity to break the 0-0 in the second half, as a shot from Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) just missed the top right of the net, but the game remained scoreless.Â
Hamline took a pair of shots to try to give themselves the lead, but both shots missed the net.Â
Meagher made yet another save in the 58th minute, as the Pipers were still held scoreless with the game heading into the late stages of the game.Â
Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN) took a shot to put the Saints on the board minutes later, but a key save kept CSS scoreless with 20 minutes to play.Â
The Pipers took a crack to score the deciding goal with less than 10 minutes to play, but another save from Meagher kept the Pipers from taking a lead of any sort.
Gabrielle Eckman (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) gave the Saints its last opportunity to score the decisive goal in the closing minutes, but a late save from the Pipers held the Saints scoreless, as the match ended in a 0-0 draw.Â
