ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team returned to the .500 mark this afternoon with a victory over its MIAC rivals, the Macalester Scots. The Saints took a 13-point lead into the half, and were able to hold on in the second half, taking today's matchup by a score of 58-48.
How it Happened
The Saints were able to jump out to an early lead in the opening quarter, with Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS), Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS), and Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) all scoring their first baskets of the afternoon, taking a 7-3 lead.
After the Scots tied the game at 7-7, Imdieke, Hannah Compton (Anoka, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS), and Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) all scored from beyond-the-arc to give the Saints a seven-point lead.
In the second quarter, Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) scored the first points in the quarter for CSS, coming on a three-pointer which would be followed by Vaske's second three-pointer minutes later, with the Saints leading 26-15.
Vaske would score once again, this time coming on a layup, and Carlson would score from three-point range, as the Saints held a 32-19 lead heading into halftime.
The Saints offense was kickstarted with an Imdieke three-pointer and a layup by Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) to open the second half, with CSS sitting in front by 14 points.
Voigt would score on a jumper later in the quarter, followed by a layup from Imdieke to close out the quarter for the Saints' offense, heading into the fourth quarter with a 42-32 lead over the Scots.
Carlson scored the first four points of the fourth quarter for the Saints, with a successful trip to the free throw line and a layup, extending the Saints lead to 14 points.
Johnson would score the next two field goals for the Saints in the fourth quarter to make the score 50-40.
A three-pointer from Compton would help maintain CSS' 10-point lead, and the Saints were helped with trips to the free throw line by Imdieke, Vaske, and Johnson, as the Saints were able to pull away with a 58-48 victory over the Scots.

The Saints (8-8, 5-7) will be back in action on Wednesday, where they will travel to St. Paul once again, taking on St. Catherine's University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
