DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell at the Reif Gymnasium this afternoon in a contest against the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers. The Cobbers took a 10-point lead into halftime, and while the Saints had a tough scoring second half, the Cobbers were able to come away with a 73-37 victory over CSS this afternoon.
How it Happened
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) got the offense started for the Saints early on, scoring a pair of layups to give CSS a three-point lead.
After Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored his first points of the game, the Cobbers went on an 8-0 run before Jacquez Overstreet (Appleton, Wis./Oshkosh West (Marian University)) hit a shot from beyond-the-arc, as the Saints trailed 17-10.
Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS) got his afternoon started offensively, scoring on a pair of layups, followed by a jumper by Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)), as the score sat at 25-16.
The Saints closed out the first half with layups from Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), as the Cobbers took a 30-20 lead over the Saints into halftime.
Concordia-Moorhead opened up the second half on a 12-1 run to extend its lead to 42-21 over CSS.
Moore was able to get his third layup of the afternoon to fall, which was followed by a jumper from Overstreet, as the Cobbers held a 19-point lead.
Overstreet would get another jumper to fall minutes later, as would Thomson, who hit a shot from beyond-the-arc.
Thomas would have a strong finish and be able to convert an and-one, as the Cobbers still held a commanding 30-point lead.
In the late moments of the second half, Ben Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy) was able to hit a jumper, as well as Kobe Karels (Cambridge, Minn./Isanti (Aurora University)) scoring at the free throw line, as the Cobbers took today's game by a score of 73-37.
