DULUTH, Minn. — The St. Scholastica football team hosted the Cobbers from Concordia-Moorhead this afternoon in a rainy MIAC Opener. The Saints led 3-0 after the first quarter, but the Cobbers scored 42 unanswered points, as the Saints were unable to take down the Cobbers today, falling by a score of 49-16.
How it Happened
After an opening drive that resulted in no points, but had some good catches from Ricky Weber (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS), the Saints were able to strike first on its second drive of the game. Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) found Wyatt Lahr (Bowlus, Minn./Royalton HS) and Connor Donovan (Maple Plain, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) for a pair of catches each before Jacob Andrews (Owatonna, Minn./Medford HS) gave the Saints a 3-0 lead on a 31-yard field goal.
The Cobbers scored for the first time this afternoon, capping off a drive that started in the late moments of the first quarter, on a 71-yard drive, as Concordia took a 7-3 lead over the Saints.
After a CSS three-and-out, the Cobbers scored on its next drive on just two plays, extending its lead to 14-3.
Concordia found the endzone two more times before the half was over, as the Cobbers took a 28-3 lead into halftime.
The Saints defense was able to stop the Cobbers coming out of the half, but Concordia drove 72 yards on its next drive to extend its lead to 35-3.
On its last drive of the third quarter, Concordia once again found the endzone, as the Cobbers led 42-3 over CSS, heading into the final quarter.
West was able to find Lahr for a gain of 40 yards on the opening play of the fourth quarter, which was followed by a Weber touchdown just a few plays later. After the touchdown, CSS trailed 42-9.
Concordia responded with a nine play, 63-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown, leading now by a score of 49-9.
The Saints' next drive began with West finding Weber for four yards and a rush by Nick Schlender (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) for a four-yard gain. West then found Benjamin Hunter (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) for a gain of 24 and the Saints found the endzone on a 23-yard reception, but the deficit now sat at 49-16.
The Cobbers were able to then run out the clock, as the Saints fell in the conference opener by a score of 49-16.

The Saints (1-2, 0-1) will hit the road next weekend, where they will travel to St. Paul, to take on Macalester. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
