Women's Tennis to Compete at ITA Midwest Regional and Midwest Invite

DULUTH, Minn. – A few of the St. Scholsatica women's tennis team players will compete at the ITA Midwest Regional and Midwest Invite at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sept. 22-25. The trio includes Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium), Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)), and Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí).

Play is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at various locations in Whitewater on Friday, Sept. 22.  Play will continue through Monday, Sept. 25 with the singles finals.  The singles and doubles champions from the ITA Regional Championships will advance to the ITA National Small College Championships. 
 
Maier earned the No. 5 seed and received a first-round bye. She will play at noon on Friday against the winner of Sofia Buhr from Concordia (Wis.) or Sydney Marin of Grinnell

Garcia will play before at 9 a.m., and face Anika Sheth from Grinnell, white Benitez goes up against Madi Whalen of Central College at 10:30 a.m.

In doubles, CSS will have Garcia and Benitez teamed up together and their match later in the day will be at 3:30 p.m. versus Alyssa Trapp and Addie Persian from Grinnell.
 
The ITA National Small College Championships are composed of the eight regional champions and eight runners-up (and/or at-large selections) from NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, and junior/community colleges. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete at one of the 85 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held across the country.
