Volleyball Take Set One in Home Opener, Knights Win Next Three

Notables
-Peterson has a season-high nine kills
-Baribeau records 5 block assists
-Carleton snaps five-game losing streak vs. CSS

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team hosted the Carleton College Knights for their home opener at Reif Gymnasium, this was the first MIAC match of the season for both teams. CSS would start out strong, as they captured the first set, but the Knights came back to win the next three sets.

How It Happened
Olivia Bauer (Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) got a packed house cheering as she recorded a kill for the first point of the night. Early on, CSS would score five points straight, which included three kills from sophomore Mikala Peterson (Mora, Minn./Mora HS). The Knights would charge back and eventually take the 13-12 lead until the Saints heated up and scored seven points in a row, Natalie Yackley (New Ulm, Minn./New Ulm HS) would earn a kill to have the 19-13 advantage. Once again, Carleton would earn a few more points, but CSS would put things away 25-19.

Set two would see the Knights get their revenge as they scored first and never gave the Saints a chance to change the lead, Carleton tied the game up with a 25-13 win. In the third set, Carleton held an early advantage on CSS 11-6, until Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) earned a kill for the Saints. The Knights kept on rolling and took the third set 25-11

This was the second time the Saints have entered into a fourth set this season and after losing two straight, CSS would regain some life. Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) would secure a kill to see her team up 11-10 for the first time since set one. The two teams would continue to trade leads, and a service ace by Riley Panger (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would see the score at 15 apiece. Although, it wouldn't be enough as the Knights managed a pair of 4-0 runs late to take the final set 25-20.

Top Performers
Peterson had a season-high nine kills on the night, Baribeau recorded five blocks, Bauer managed four, and Bryn Ziegler (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) continues to lead the team in digs with 11 on the evening.
