ST. PAUL, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to St. Paul tonight, taking on the Pipers from Hamline. Unfortunately, the Saints found itself down double-digits at halftime and fell in tonight's matchup by a score of 74-61.
First Half
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) scored the first two field goals for CSS tonight, hitting a jumper and a three-pointer, matching the Pipers at 7-7.
After an Imdieke layup,
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) got her first points of the night, with a three-pointer, as CSS led 12-11.
The Saints rounded out the first quarter with a three-pointer from
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS), and a layup by
Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS), as the score was locked at 17-17 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter,
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) converted a layup with five minutes to play in the half, as CSS trailed 27-20.
Vaske then scored the final field goal of the half, as Hamline took a 37-24 lead into halftime.
Second Half
The Saints' offense got started quickly in the second half, as Imdieke hit a three, followed by a converted and-one by Johnson, making the score 37-30 in favor of Hamline.
Johnson got a layup to fall moments later, which was followed by a pair of free throws and a jumper by Turner.
Trailing by 10,
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) got a three-pointer to fall not much later, and she also converted two free throws to end the scoring for CSS in the quarter.
Imdieke opened up the final quarter of the night with a three-point play on an and-one, which was followed with a layup by Johnson on the ensuing possession, but Hamline still led by 14.
With six and a half minutes to play
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) got a layup to go, Hurley was a force to be reckon with on the boards tonight, as she grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
Vaske and Turner both got three-pointers to fall on back-to-back possessions for CSS, but still trailed 69-56.
Imdieke hit the last field goal for CSS tonight with a three-pointer, but Hamline took tonight's matchup by a score of 74-61.
