DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell this evening, in a home contest against the Oles from St. Olaf. The score was tied 36-36 at halftime, but the Oles pulled away from the Saints in the closing minutes, defeating the Saints by a score of 68-58.
First Half
The Saints grabbed an early lead following a pair of free throws by
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), as
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got her first three-pointer to fall, taking a 5-2 lead in the process.
Vaske would convert a layup on the Saints' next possession, followed by another Imdieke three, making the score 10-5.
Just moments later, Hurley scored on a three-pointer of her own, and after an Imdieke jumper minutes later, the Saints extended its lead to six points.
Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored the final field goal for CSS in the first quarter, scoring on a jumper with on an assist by Vaske, as the Saints took a six-point lead heading into the second quarter.
The Saints got three-pointers to fall on back-to-back possessions, as
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) and Imdieke both hit three's, making it a 24-14 lead for CSS.
The Oles would rally, and eventually take the lead with a minute to play, after a Hurley three-pointer.
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) would give the Saints its lead back, scoring on a layup, to take a two-point lead.
The Oles tied the game at 36-36 as the score remained there heading into halftime.
Second Half
Johnson scored the first points for CSS to open the half, scoring a fastbreak layup, but CSS trailed by just two, 40-38.
After a Vaske layup, St. Olaf went on a 10-0 run, until Imdieke scored on yet another three-pointer.
Vaske would hit a three-pointer late in the quarter, but the Oles led 54-48 heading into the final quarter.
Johnson scored a layup early in the quarter, but CSS could not find the bottom of the net for the next six minutes. The Oles took a 12-point lead during the Saints' cold streak.
Imdieke and Hurley would each score on three-pointers late, but it was too much to come back from, as St. Olaf defeated St. Scholastica, by a score of 68-58.
