MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In their first conference match since October, the St. Scholastica men's tennis team was on the wrong side of a 3-6 score to Macalester College on Friday evening in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Doubles
The Saints (1-3, 0-2 MIAC) got off to a fast start coming away with two of the three doubles matches and a one-point advantage against the Scots (2-1, 1-0 MIAC) heading into singles play.
The #1 tandem of Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) and Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Au.) won 8-6, and the #2 duo of Julius Tabrizi (Frankfurt, Germany/Bischof-Neumann) and Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn.) was also victorious 8-2.Â
Singles
St. Scholastica's momentum was halted in singles play as Macalester went on to take 5 of the 6 remaining contests.
At the No. 6 position, Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) outlasted his opponent in a third-set superbreaker, coming away with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (14-12) victory.Â
