DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica college men's tennis team was dispatched 0-9 by No. 17 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. The Saints gave the Gusties a handful of tightly contested games across the lineup but came away from the weekend stint still searching for their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win of 2022-23.Â
DoublesÂ
To start the match, nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus took all 3 of the available doubles points heading into singles play, dropping zero games at 1 and 3 doubles.
Julius Tabrizi (Frankfurt, Germany/Bischof-Neumann) and Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn.) fought hard at the No. 2 spot but ultimately dropped their contest 3-8.Â
Singles
The Gusties would take the 3-0 doubles lead and never look back, winning 6 of 6 singles matches, all in straight-set fashion.
On No. 1 court Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) pushed his opponent to the brink of conceding a super breaker in the second set but was held off at the end 0-6, 4-6 by Gustavus's top singles player.
The Saints were able to take 15 games across the 6 singles courts but came away empty-handed in both segments of the match.Â
