Men’s Basketball Falls in Hard-Fought Game Against Concordia-Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball tram fell this afternoon, in a matchup against the Cobbers from Concordia-Moorhead. The Saints trailed by just six points at halftime, but the Cobbers extended its lead in the second half, defeating CSS by a score of 81-67.
 
First Half
The Saints' offense got started today by a dunk by Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)), and a three-pointer and layup by Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), but the Cobbers led 10-7 early.
 
Winesett hit his second three of the half, after a layup by Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), but Moorhead still led 19-12.
 
Moments later, Mohamed Washington (Silver Spring, MD/Hibbing Community College) got his first jumper to fall, which was followed by another three by Winesett, cutting the deficit to just four points.
 
Later in the half, Winesett converted an and-one, and on the next Saints possession, Washington scored on a three-pointer, making the score 37-29 in favor of Moorhead.
 
Hendrickson and Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) helped CSS later, as both converted three-pointers with just under two minutes to play.
 
Second Half
Concordia extended its lead in the early moments of the second half, leading by 13, until Carlson scored on back-to-back possessions.
 
After a Carlson layup, Matho Ojullu (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North High School (Dakota County Technical College)) scored his first points on a layup, but CSS still trailed by 12.
 
At the seven minute mark in the half, Raymond scored on a layup, and Winesett got yet another three-pointer to go, but CSS trailed big with just minutes to play.
 
Carlson scored seven of the Saints' last 11 points, but ultimately, the Cobbers defeated the Saints today, by a score of 81-67.
 
Up Next
The Saints (7-16, 6-12 MIAC) will be back in action next on Wednesday, where they will travel to Northfield, taking on the Oles from St. Olaf. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
