Men’s Basketball Falls on the Road to St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell this evening, taking on the Oles from St. Olaf. The Oles took a 49-24 lead into halftime, and extended it in the second half, defeating CSS by a score of 88-54.
 
First Half
Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) made a splash for CSS to score its first points of the game, scoring on a dunk, assisted by Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS).
 
Hendrickson would then hit a three-pointer on the ensuing Saints possession, cutting the Oles early lead to three points, trailing 8-5.
 
Mohamed Washington (Silver Spring, MD/Hibbing Community College) and Connor Bich (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown HS (Dakota Wesleyan)) scored the next two baskets for the Saints, as the duo both hit jumpers, making the score 17-9.
 
Bich converted an and-one moments later, cutting the Saints' deficit to 19-12.
 
Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored his first points of the game on a three-pointer, assisted by Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS), as the score sat at 27-15.
 
In the closing minutes, Ethan Russell (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and Koy Nelson (Port Wing, WI/South Shore High School) got their names on the scoreboard, as Russell got a layup to fall, and Nelson hit a three-pointer. The Saints trailed however, 49-24 at halftime.
 
Second Half
Carlson opened up the second half for CSS with a jumper and a dunk, followed up with a dunk by Raymond, but CSS trailed 54-30.
 
Carlson scored the next six points for the Saints, hitting two three pointers, making the score 63-36.
 
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) got a jumper to fall with 12 minutes to play, as the score sat at 65-39.
 
Washington scored on back-to-back possessions for the Saints later in the half, scoring on a dunk and a jumper.
 
Closing out the half, Nelson scored the last five points for the Saints, but St. Olaf defeated CSS tonight, by a score of 88-54.
 
Up Next
The Saints (7-17, 6-13 MIAC) will hit the hardwood next on Saturday, where they will host the Knights from Carleton, in the regular-season finale. The game will also be Senior Night for the Saints. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
