DAYTONA, Fla. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team took on Ramapo College (NJ) this afternoon, in the first game of the Florida Sunshine Shootout. Although CSS trailed by eight heading into the second half, the Saints were able to claw back into its deficit. However, a comeback attempt would fall just short, as the Roadrunner's from Ramapo took today's game by a score of 65-63.

How it Happened
Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) put an end to the Roadrunner's early 10-0 run with a jumper to kickstart the Saints' offense.

Koy Nelson (Port Wing, Wis./South Shore HS) helped keep the deficit under double-digits, hitting two three-pointers and getting a layup to fall, as CSS trailed 17-10.

Later in the half, Luke Raymond (Hudson, Wis./Concordia Academy (UW-River Falls)) scored his first points of the game on a slam dunk, as the Saints still trailed 22-13.

The Roadrunner's went on a 6-0 run over the course of four minutes before the Saints responded with layups from Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater HS), Aaron Keykal (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), and Winesett, to make the score 30-20.

Closing out the first half, Raymond and Andre Crockett Jr. (Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS (Rochester Community College)) got baskets to fall, as Ramapo took a 32-24 lead into the half.

St. Scholastica jumped out to a quick start in the second half, with Crockett Jr. and Winesett scoring six points, as the Saints cut into the deficit, trailing 38-32.

Moments later, Crockett Jr. and Thomson both got three-pointers to fall, as the Saints trailed by just one possession.

Layups from Thomson and Raymond brought the score to 44-42, but Ramapo was able to bring its lead back up to eight points, leading 50-42.

After the Roadrunner's lead was extended to 15, Kevin Thomas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) converted two layups and Winesett scored on a three-pointer, as the Saints trailed 59-51.

Thomas was able to score once again on a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Crockett Jr. and a jumper from Keykal, to bring the score to 65-60.

In the closing minutes, the Saints got another three-pointer from Crockett Jr., and after a jumper from Keykal and Thomas hitting a three-pointer, the Saints trailed by just two points.

Although the Saints forced a turnover, they could not capitalize on the ensuing possession, as Ramapo came away with a 65-63 victory over CSS.
