ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team picked up its fourth victory of the season tonight, making the trip to Ashland to take on Northland College. The Saints jumped out to a 44-13 lead at halftime, and continued its dominance in the second half, defeating the LumberJacks by a score of 72-34.
How it Happened
The Saints got the scoring started tonight with a layup from Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) converting an and-one to take an early 5-2 lead.
Imdieke scored the next two baskets for CSS, getting a layup and a three-pointer to fall. Moments later, the Saints scored on back-to-back possessions, with Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) and Lind both scoring on layups, as St. Scholastica held a 14-2 lead.
CSS ended the quarter on a high note, as three-pointers from Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) and Imdieke, followed with a layup from Lind gave CSS a 25-2 lead after one quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) scored her first points on a layup, and after layups from Bierschbach and Lind, CSS extended its lead to 34-7.
A layup from Voigt and a three-pointer from Imdieke would give CSS a 32-point lead. Madeline Perry (Ely, Minn./Ely Memorial HS) got her first shot to fall in the closing minutes of the first half, as CSS led 43-13 at halftime.
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) scored her first points from beyond-the-arc in the early moments of the third quarter, helping CSS extend the lead to 52-15.
Carlson scored on a layup later in the quarter, and after trips to the free throw line by Perry and Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS), CSS held a 35-point lead heading into the final quarter.
Faur would get a layup to fall early in the fourth quarter, which would be followed by a jumper from Nia Hacker (Farmington, Minn/Eastview HS), as the Saints lead sat at 63-27.
A layup from Bierschbach and a three-pointer from Faur would give CSS a 39-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.
In the closing moments of the game, Abby Whitby (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island HS) scored her first points of the night, as the Saints came away with a 72-34 victory over the LumberJacks tonight.
