DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team played its second game in as many days this evening, hosting the #5 ranked Pointers from Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Saints struck first late in the first period, and after a scoreless second period, CSS was able to add the difference maker on the powerplay midway through the third period. Although the Pointers added a goal late, St. Scholastica was able to hold on and upset Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a score of 2-1.

From the Rink
For most of the first period, both teams traded shots, with no change in score. Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS) got the start in the net for the Saints, and was able to help keep the high-powered Pointers offense off the board.

The first goal of the game came late in the first period, when Sam Olson (Duluth, Minn./Cloquet HS) scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya) and Carsen Richels (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS), to give CSS a 1-0 lead they would take into the second period.

The second period was dominated by strong defense and goalkeeping play, as there was no goal in the period despite plenty of opportunities from both sides, as the Saints still held a 1-0 lead heading into the final period.

In the early moments of the third period, Bostedt was still holding strong in keeping the Pointers scoreless.

The Saints found the back of the net midway through the third period, when Brodie Girod (Clavet, Saskatchewan/Clavet HS) scored on the powerplay, with assists going to Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS) and Bryce Johnson (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS), to give CSS a 2-0 lead over Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

With just about three minutes to play, the Pointers finally scored its first goal of the night on the powerplay, cutting CSS lead in half, as the score sat at 2-1.

Despite the late goal, the Saints' defense stepped up in a big way in the end, as a blocked shot by Tristan Shewchuck proved to be a big one, as the Saints held on to upset the Pointers by a score of 2-1.

Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS) earned his second win of the young campaign, stopping 23 shots en route to the victory in tonight's match.
