DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Wildcats from St. Catherine's this evening at the Reif Gymnasium. The Saints trailed by just seven points at the end of the first half, but a big third quarter from the Wildcats propelled them to a 65-42 victory over CSS.
How it Happened
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead over CSS, but Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored her first points of the night, followed by a three-pointer from Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) that Lind assisted on, to keep CSS within striking distance.
The Saints earned its first lead of the evening late in the first quarter, coming on a three-pointer from Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Lind's second layup of the game, giving CSS a 12-9 lead.
After the Wildcats reclaimed its lead in the second quarter, Imdieke and Lind would respond with layups, as the Saints lead 17-15.
The Saints offense went cold, as Carlson ended the scoring drought that lasted nearly five minutes, as the Wildcats took a 27-20 lead into halftime.
Carlson got the Saints offense started in the second half with a jumper, followed up with layups from Lind and Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS), to cut into the Wildcats lead as the score sat at 33-26.
Another layup by Bierschbach with three minutes left in the third quarter cut the Wildcats lead to 12. On the ensuing possession, Lind scored a fast break layup to fall while getting a foul call as well. Lind converted the free throw and made the score 40-31.
The Wildcats ended the third quarter on a 12-0 run, as the Saints trailed 52-31 entering the final quarter.
Lind and Carlson started the quarter off with layups each in an attempt to cut into the Wildcats lead.
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) scored her first points of the night midway through the final quarter, as the Wildcats still held a 20-point lead over CSS.
Hannah Kinsey (Cook, Minn./North Woods HS) was able to find the court in the final minutes, and she was able to score her first collegiate points on a turnaround jumper, as the Wildcats were able to close out tonight's game with a 65-42 victory over CSS.

The Saints (1-2, 0-1) will be back in action next on Wednesday, November 29th, where they will travel to Minneapolis to take on the Auggies from Augsburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
