DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Pointers from Wisconsin-Stevens Point this afternoon at the Reif Gymnasium. The Saints fell into an early deficit, and although CSS recovered in the second half, the deficit was too much to come back from, falling to the pointers by a score of 77-62.
How it Happened
The Pointers opened up the game scoring 14 unanswered points before Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) scored the first points for the Saints.
Later in the quarter, Meghan Hurley scored her first points of the afternoon, followed with a three-pointer by Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS), as the Pointers took a 27-9 lead into the second quarter.
After Hurley scored her second jumper of the game, Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) got a pair of layups to fall, cutting into the deficit as the score sat at 31-17.
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) was held scoreless in the first quarter, but the sophomore responded big in the second quarter, scoring a three-pointer and getting a layup to go with four minutes to go in the half.
After Johnson hit a layup on the ensuing Saints possession, the Saints got the rest of its points in the first half from the free throw line. Imdieke, Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS), Johnson, and Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) all took turns scoring from the line, closing the first half down 13, trailing 45-32.
Imdieke and Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored the first points for CSS in the second half, both of which came off layups, making the score 52-36.
Later in the quarter, after trips to the line for the Saints proved successful, Lind got her second field goal of the game, as the Saints trailed 60-43 heading into the final quarter.
The Saints got a pair of three-pointers to fall early in the fourth quarter, as Imdieke and Vaske converted from beyond-the-arc.
A layup from Lind cut the deficit to 12 points, but the Pointers responded with a 6-0 run, bringing its lead back up to 18 points.
In the closing minutes, the Saints got layups to fall from Imdieke and Bierschbach, as she scored the final points for CSS on a pair of layups as time expired, giving the Pointers a win in today's game by a score of 77-62.

The Saints (1-1, 0-0) will open up conference play, where they will take on St. Catherine's University next Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
