NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team opened up with their first conference start of the fall season at Carleton College for a match with the Knights.
Singles
The match started with singles, where the Knights were able to take all six matches.
Abeleda fell at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
First-year
Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) battled with Jasper Yang, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-3 in No. 4 play.
Lastly,
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) would fall in the first set 6-2 and then come back to force a second set tie. Carleton's Jerome Yang would be able to prevail, winning 7-5 in No. 5 singles
Doubles
The Saints would see much closer matches in doubles play
The No. 1 team of Abeleda and
Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Au./) fought with the Knights, but fell 8-7 (7-5)
D. Patten and partner
Julius Tabrizi (Frankfurt, Germany/Bischof-Neumann) lost 8-6 in the second spot.
The final pairing of
Alex Daigneault (Agua Dulce, Calif./Hart HS) and
Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./) went back and forth with the Knights and were unable to avoid a shutout as the Knights captured the 8-7 (11-9) result at the third slot.
