ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team traveled to St. Peter to take on Gustavus in its season finale this afternoon. Unfortunately for the Saints, Gustavus took a 3-1 lead into halftime, and scored three more goals in the second half, defeating the Saints by a score of 6-1.
How it Happened
Gustavus wasted no time scoring in this match, breaking the 0-0 tie in just the sixth minute, taking an early 1-0 lead.
After Liam Lothian (Redditch, England/RSA Academy Arrow Vale) made a pair of saves, the Saints took its turn scoring, as Keegan Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) scored his seventh goal of the season, on an assist from Kyle Schmidt (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), to tie the match at 1-1.
Although the Saints took back the momentum, Gustavus scored twice before the end of the half in the 34th and 38th minutes, to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Gustavus scored its fourth goal of the afternoon in the 49th minute to extend the lead over CSS to 4-1.
The Gusties weren't done yet, finding the back of the net twice before this one was over, as Gustavus walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Saints in the regular season finale.
End of Season
The Saints finished this season with a record of 2-14-1, with a 0-9-1 record in conference play this season.
