Women's Tennis Defeat Pipers 8-1

Box Score SAINT PAUL, MINN - The St. Scholastica women's tennis team picked up a win as they closed out their fall season with an 8-1 victory over Hamline University on Saturday evening.

The Saints got off to a 3-0 start as they took all three doubles matches.

The No.1 team of Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) won 8-6, Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) and Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) grabbed a 8-2 win in the second match. While Chole Hasbargen and newcomer Claire Rewertz (Hibbing,Minn./Hibbing HS) demonstrated a dominating 8-1 win.

The Saints would be able to take care of business, winning five of the six singles matches.

No. 1 Maier and No. 2 had the same results, defeating the Pipers players (6-0, 6-1). Benitez won her match in the No. 3 spot (6-0, 7-5) and the new addition of Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/(Cowley College) won in No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-0)

The five slot, saw a battle between Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and her opponent, but Bartles would win (6-7, 6-2, 10-5) and in the final match Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) wouldn't be able to shut out the Pipers in this one, as she fell (6-1, 6-4) in her match.

Similar to the men's program, the women finish out their fall season and will start up their spring season in Florida in 2024.
