DULUTH, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team suffered its 11
th loss of the season tonight, after hosting the Gusties from Gustavus Adolphus College. The Saints found itself trailing by 19 points at halftime, and fell in this one by a score of 75-48.
First Half
The Gusties opened up the game with a 16-0 run over the first six minutes of the game before
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) got the scoring going for CSS off an assist from
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)).
The Saints were only able to score one more basket in the first quarter, which came from a layup by
Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)), as Gustavus took a 24-5 lead into the second quarter.
The Saints began to get its mojo back in the second quarter, as free throws by
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) and
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), helped get the Saints started in the second half.
With three minutes to play in the first half, Broberg converted a pair of three-pointers, but however, the Saints still trailed by 24 points.
CSS finished the first half with a three by Hurley, and a pair of free throws by
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School), but still trailed 39-20 heading into the second half.
Second Half
Johnson started off the second half with an opening layup, which was followed minutes later with free throws by Hurley, but CSS still faced a big deficit.
Roughly halfway through the third quarter, Frase added a three-pointer and a layup on the following possession, adding to the Saints' offense.
Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) etched her name on the scoreboard with a three-pointer with a few minutes left to play in the third quarter, which Gustavus took a 65-36 lead into the final quarter.
Early on in the final quarter, the Saints got the offense going with jumpers by Frase and Hurley, sparking some offense to end the game.
The rest of the fourth quarter was highlitghed by the Saints' ability to get to the free throw line, earning five points from the line, but ultimately Gustavus took the matchup tonight by a score of 75-48.

The Saints (0-11, 0-9 MIAC) will hit the court next on Saturday, where they will host Saint Mary's at Reif Gymnasium in a conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
