DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – After being canceled in 2021 and forced to go virtual in 2020, The College of St. Scholastica Athletics Department will hold its ninth annual Saints Sports Awards in-person on Sunday and for the first time the event will take place in the Mitchell Auditorium.
Awards will be handed out for Male/Female Rookie of the Year, Male/Female Athlete of the Year, Male/Female Team of the Year, Male/Female Performance of the Year, Male/Female Game of the Year, Male/Female Career Achievement, John Baggs Sportsmanship Award, Male/Female Scholar-Athlete and the Berntson Blue and Gold Support.
Nominees for the awards are based on fall and winter sports during the 2021-22 school year and spring sports from 2021. The awards were voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), coaches and athletics administration.
The event was established in 2013 to recognize all of St. Scholastica's student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, as well as, in the community. The Oscar-like, semi-formal atmosphere will feature a student-athlete social beginning at 6 p.m. in Storm's Den which will include picture stations and snacks. There is also a social for senior athletes beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the President's Hallway.
St. Scholastica alum and WDIO-TV Sports Director Alicia Tipcke will be handling the Master of Ceremonies this year.
