VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won its second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match of the season on Sunday, taking care of Macalester College 7-2 at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.
Doubles
For the second time this season when all three doubles matches were played, the Saints won all three matches.
The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won by a score of 8-2.
That 8-2 margin also went for the No. 3 team of
Ava Warren (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí).
The No. 2 team of
Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) and
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) won by score of 8-3.
Singles
Maier won her second straight match at the No. 1 singles spot by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Garcia won her sixth straight singles match at the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph.
Benitez dropped only one game at the No. 4 position with winning scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Ritchie won at the No. 5 spot in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
The Scots (4-7, 1-3 MIAC) were able to pull out wins in third-set superbreakers in the other two matches.
Up Next
The Saints (6-4, 2-2 MIAC) remain at home and will host Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. Action is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
