Women’s Hockey Eliminated from Postseason by Top-Seeded Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Sixth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College showed why it was the regular season champion as the Gusties defeated the St. Scholastica women's hockey team 5-0 Wednesday night to end the Saints' season in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) semifinals.
 
How it Happened
Brooke Power scored a pair of goals for the Gusties (21-3-2) in the first period, both coming in the final eight minutes of the period. CSS was out-shot 12-1 in the first 20 minutes of play.
 
Gustavus added two more goals in the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. Shots were 17-7 in the second period in favor of the Gusties.
 
The Gusties added one more goal in the third period to make the final 5-0.
 
Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) made 29 saves for the Saints. Katie McCoy had 10 saves for the Gusties.
 
End of Season
The Saints finish with a 12-10-2 overall mark in their first season in the MIAC. The Saints became the first St. Scholastica program to earn a MIAC playoff win after defeating Augsburg University last Saturday.
 
CSS will say goodbye to one of the best Senior classes in program history. Those seniors not returning are Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS), Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS), Everly Bauck (Silver Bay, Minn./William M. Kelley HS), Kendall Markovic (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS), Hailey Raske (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) and Ashley Healy (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS).
