NCAA RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS (
csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica will have one male and one female compete at the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships next week at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.
Senior men's skier
Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway/Lillehammer) will become the first CSS skier in program history to compete at four consecutive NCAA Championships. Book Bratbak scored for the Saints in every Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Qualifier this season, finishing no worse than eighth in any race. He earned First Team All-CCSA accolades for the second time in his career. At the 2021 NCAA Championships, Book Bratbak earned Second All-America accolades with a 10
th place finish in the 10km classic race. He will look to become the first skier in program history to earn All-America honors multiple times.
First-year women's skier
Victoria Dybwad (Oslo, Norway/Donski HS) qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing her season strong. Dybwad missed the first two qualifiers, but then proceeded to score for the Saints in each of the final six races. She recorded top-10 finishes in five of those six qualifiers, including a season-best sixth in the last race, the 15km freestyle of the NCAA Central Region Championships.
The U.S. Championships were held at Soldier Hollow earlier this season with Book Bratbak competing only in the freestyle sprint event. Dybwad did not compete out at Soldier Hollow. The last time the NCAA Championships were held at Soldier Hollow, Paul Schommer captured All-America honors in the 20km freestyle in 2014.
Participants are selected on a regional basis from two designated regions for Alpine skiing (East and West Regions) and three designated regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East and West Regions). Bids are awarded to regions using a formula determined by the skiing committee. A maximum of 12 student-athletes (three per gender per discipline) may be selected from an institution.
The nordic skiing portion of the NCAA Championships kick off next Thursday, March 10 with the individual start class races, followed with the mass start freestyle races on Saturday, March 12.
