csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team went on the road Sunday and defeated St. Norbert College (Wis.) 7-2 to open its season 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
Doubles
The Saints swept all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) won 8-1.
The No. 2 tandem of
Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and
Ava Warren (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won their second straight doubles match with an 8-2 victory.
The No. 3 duo of
Julia Ellefson (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) and
Hannah Loewen (St. James, Minn./St. James HS) also won by that 8-2 margin.
Singles
Maier begins 2-0 at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
Warren blanked her opponent at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-0.
Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) improved to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 5 spot.
Eva Kangas (Grand Rapids, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy – Grand Rapids HS) won her first collegiate match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position.
