csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won its inaugural Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dual match on Saturday to improve to 3-0 with an 8-1 victory over Hamline University.
Doubles
The Saints won at the No. 3 spot by default, but also cruised to wins at the top two spots.
The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won 8-3, while the No. 2 duo of
Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) and
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) blanked their opponents 8-0.
Singles
Maier won at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-1 for her sixth straight singles win in dual play.
Jankila dropped just one game at the No. 2 spot, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
In her collegiate debut, not only did Garcia win in doubles play, but she also rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3 singles spot.
Also making her collegiate debut was
Cursta Dimberio (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), who won at the No. 5 spot by scores of 7-6 (7-0), 6-1.
