ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was outscored 26-5 in the third quarter by the College of Saint Benedict and shot a season-low 22% for the game to see its season end by a score of 61-33 on Saturday in the First Round of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoffs.
How It Happened
The Saints got off to a great start scoring the first seven points and held the Bennies (15-10) without a field goal for the first five minutes of the contest. However, CSS would be held without a field goal the final six of the minutes of the quarter as St. Ben's closed the quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 14-9 lead into the second period.
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) snapped the field goal drought for the Saints with a 3-pointer in the first minute of the second quarter. However, CSS could only get within five points in the quarter and trailed 26-19 at the half.
The Bennies went on a 20-1 run in the third quarter and outscored the Saints 26-5 in the period to ultimately put the game away. St. Ben's advanced to the MIAC Quarterfinals with a 61-33 victory.
Top Performers
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) was the only Saint in double-figures with 11 points.
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) gabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
Gabby Martin led the Bennies with 13 points.

The Saints finish with an overall record of 3-22 under first-year head coach
Jason Schmitz. The Saints will say goodbye to one senior in Emma Schmitz.
