Bryce Johnson (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS (Thief River Falls-SIJHL)) and
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) each scored twice as the St. Scholastica men's hockey team secured home ice for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff quarterfinal round with a 6-2 victory on Senior Night Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Saints jumped out to a two-goal advantage after one period play as Johnson and Hinterser both added goals in the first 13 minutes of action.
Braeden Holcomb (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) assisted Johnson's goal and brothers
Arkhip Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) and
Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) assisted Hinterser's goal.
Hinterser added his second goal four minutes into the second period to extend the margin to 3-0. It was the Ledenkov brothers again assisting the goal. After the Gusties (5-15-4, 0-9-3 MIAC) got on the board with seven minutes left in the second period, F. Ledenkov was on the receiving end of a goal this time less than a minute later to make it 4-1.
Alec Severson (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS (Thief River Falls-SIJHL)) and
Will Fisher (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Boston Jr. Rangers-EHL)) were credited with the assists.
Johnson added his second of the night 23 seconds later to put the Saints up 5-1. The scoring was not done in the period for the Saints as senior
Jon Hansen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) netted his first goal of the season with 1:25 remaining to make it 6-1.
Jack Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) had his first collegiate point with the assist.
Gustavus added a goal in the third period to make the final 6-2.
Goaltending
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) recorded 27 saves for his 11
th win. Jackson Hjelle had 31 saves for the Gusties.
