Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Wichita Falls-NAHL)) scored his first collegiate goal with less than eight minutes remaining to give the St. Scholastica men's hockey team a 2-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College Thursday night in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action.
How it Happened
The Saints dominated the first period, outshooting the Gusties 12-1.
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) scored his fourth goal of the season six minutes into the game to give the Saints a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
Filimon Ledenkov (Polotsk, Belarus/Ostroshitsko-Gorodokskaya (New York Aviators-USPHL)) had the assist.
Gustavus responded in the second period, outshooting the Saints 13-8 and tied the game at 1-1 with less than three minutes to go in the period.
After CSS was unable to take advantage of a power-play at the midway point of the third period, Lanigan was able to light the lamp even strength with 7:43 left in regulation to give the Saints the lead again at 2-1.
Jon Hansen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) and
Braeden Holcomb (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) had the assists.
The Gusties pulled their goaltender for the final two minutes of play and got a couple of shots on target in the final moments, but the Saints prevailed 2-1.
