NORTHFIELD, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team got 27 points from
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)), but a 12-0 run to start the second half by St. Olaf College proved to be the difference in a 67-59 loss to the Oles in the regular season finale Wednesday night.
How It Happened
Broberg and
Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) continued how they ended Monday night by scoring the first four points of the contest on Wednesday to give CSS an early 4-0 lead. The Oles (8-16, 7-14 MIAC) responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead.
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Frase scored the final four points of the quarter which put St. Scholastica in front 14-13 heading into the second period. Frase and Broberg scored 12 of the 14 points for the Saints in the quarter.
Broberg scored the first seven points of the second quarter for the Saints as CSS was still in front with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. However, St. Olaf went on another 8-0 run to take a 27-21 lead. A
Karli Nixon (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) 3-pointer got the Saints back within one, but Oles went into halftime holding a 29-26 lead.
The start of the second half saw St. Olaf score the first 12 points to take a 15-point lead. CSS did end the quarter on a 12-3 run and trailed 51-43 heading into the fourth quarter.
Another Nixon 3-pointer got the Saints within five early in the fourth quarter, but the Oles were able to hold off the Saints, but shooting 75% from the floor in the quarter to win by a final margin of 67-59.
Top Performers
Broberg led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 50% from the field. Frase and Nixon added nine points each. Turner led the team with five rebounds and
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) a team-high five assists.
K'Lynn Lewis led the Oles with 24 points. Rachel Kelly had 19 points and 20 rebounds.
