Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) recorded a double-double to lead the Saints to a 57-53 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead Monday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
The Saints started off the game strong scoring the first 12 points of the game.
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) contributed with eight points and Frase contributed four points to the CSS lead. The Cobbers (7-14, 7-12 MIAC) were able to close up the lead on the Saints, but were never able to gain the lead. CSS finished the quarter up 14-11.
St. Scholastica had a rough start to the second quarter. They lost their lead and were unable to put any more points up on the board until there was less than four minutes left in the half. However, they didn't end the quarter down by much. At the end of the first half St. Scholastica was only down by three, 22-19.
At the start of the third quarter
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) made a three pointer to tie up the game. Throughout this quarter it was back and forth on who had the lead. The Cobbers were the ones who had the largest lead throughout this quarter which was five points. CSS quickly came back, not allowing that lead to get any bigger. This time at the end of the quarter it was St. Scholastica who had the three point lead as Frase scored the final three points of the period.
The final quarter of the game the Saints took charge, not allowing Concordia to gain the lead on them once. Concordia tried to come back and was closing in on the 53-46 lead CSS had over them and brought the score to 53-50. The Saints held Concordia to their 50 points up until the last six seconds when they were able to put up one last three pointer. The Cobbers were out of time and St. Scholastica was able to pull out their third win, 57-53.
