DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was held to 34% shooting as Augsburg University defeated the Saints 84-63 on Wednesday in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
The Saints led in the early going with 3-pointers from
Nick Carlson (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS) and
Jack Silgen (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)). CSS led 10-8 with less than 14 minutes remaining in the first half, when the Auggies (13-2, 10-0 MIAC) drained back-to-back 3-pointers to take their first lead. A Silgen three-point-play made the score 22-21 Augsburg with nine minutes left in the half. The Auggies responded with a 7-0 run to take a 29-21 lead. Carlson scored the final five points of the half for the Saints to make the halftime score 37-31 Augsburg.
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) made it a five-point game four minutes into the second half. However, the Auggies slowly extended the margin throughout the second half from that point. Augsburg went on a 21-7 run over six minutes in the half as the Saints were limited to one made field goal during that stretch. Augsburg went on to win by a final of 84-63.
Top Performers
Carlson led the Saints with 13 points, 10 of which came in the first half. Fischer and Silgen each added 12 points with Fischer leading the way with seven rebounds.
Yohanes Addiss Gebeyehu (Shoreview, Minn./Roseville HS) matched a career-high with eight points.
Conner Knoepfle led the Auggies with 15 points.
