MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team extended its win streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of North Central University (Minn.) on Tuesday.

Game 1: CSS 12, NCU 0 (F/7)
The Saints scored in six of the seven innings and Jack Perala (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) allowed just three hits in the game one victory.

Bryce Huffman (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) had a RBI single in the first to open the scoring. Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) hit a two-run single in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. In the fourth inning, Cody Venske (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) hit a two-run home run to make it 7-0. Venske later hit a two-run double to make it 10-0.

Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes CC)) each had RBIs late to make the final score 12-0.

Perala struck out six in five innings of work for his fourth straight win. Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Venske drove in four runs.

Game 2: CSS 17, NCU 5 (F/7)
After going hitless in game one, Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) made up for it in a big way in game two, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and five runs scored. In those four hits, he singled, doubled, homered and then tripled to hit for the cycle. He becomes the first Saint to do so since Chris LePine accomplished the feat on May 4, 2000, exactly 21 years ago today.

Tautges walked in his first at-bat and later scored on a Huffman single. Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) and Venske added RBIs in the first inning as the Saints led 3-0.

Tautges led off the second inning with a single. He scored again on a Huffman single. Schelonka and Jack Tiemann (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) had RBIs in the inning to make it 6-0. Tautges walked again in the third, but did not score this time around.

Tiemann and Schemenauer drove in runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-1. Tautges led off the fifth inning with a double. He scored again on a Huffman RBI. In the sixth inning, Tautges hit his first collegiate home run, a no-doubter to right field. Kam Larson (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) also drove in two in the inning and the score stood at 16-2.

Tautges came up one more time to lead off the seventh, needing a triple for the cycle. He would hit a ball out of the reach of the diving right fielder, which allowed Tautges to round second and get to third standing up to complete the cycle. The Saints went on to win 17-5.

T.J. Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) struck out five to earn his second win. Schelonka struck out seven in just three innings of relief. Schelonka also had three hits at the plate and Huffman drove in three runs.
