DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team will close its time in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) having not lost a single regular season conference match this century. The Saints defeated the University of Northwestern (Minn.) 7-2 Saturday night to capture its 24
th consecutive UMAC regular season championship.
Doubles
The Saints took two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead in the dual.
The No. 1 team of
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) needed a tiebreaker to prevail by a score of 8-7 (7-3) for their fourth straight win. The No. 3 duo of
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Giacomo Lucchesi (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria Marianistas) won by an 8-4 margin.
Singles
The Saints took five of the six singles matches to cruise to victory.
Schneider improved to 9-0 on the year at the No. 1 spot with a straight sets win 6-3, 6-1. Kearney rallied from a set down to pull it out at the No. 2 spot 4-6, 6-1, (10-8).
Carter Anderson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) came out with a straight sets win at the No. 4 spot by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). Lucchesi had no issues at the No. 5 position, winning 6-3, 6-1 for his sixth consecutive victory. The final winner was
Bradley Golant (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS (Hearst-NOJHL)) at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-4.
